No Figs

My grandfather had a pear tree in his backyard that never yeilded any pears?  Year after year we saw no fruit.  What's the point of having a fruit tree that doesn't bear fruit?  This tree is a wasted tree because it does not serve its purpose.  Is your life serving its intended purpose?  Can we learn the importance of this question from a tree?  Jesus thought so and used a fig tree which bore no figs to illustrate the judgment upon the temple in Jerusalem.  You can read about it in Mark 11:12-20 and listen to a sermon on this text here.
